Rotary Unloader
A Rotary Unloader,also commonly referred to as a rotary airlock valve,rotary feeder,or star-shaped unloader,is a critical industrial component designed for the continuous,metered discharge of bulk materials(powders,granules,pellets)while maintaining an airtight seal between pressure zones.It is an indispensable device in pneumatic conveying,dust collection,and material handling systems across diverse industries.
Construction
A standard Rotary Unloader comprises four main components:
Housing:The outer body,typically constructed from cast iron,carbon steel,or stainless steel(304/316L).It provides structural integrity,wear resistance,and houses the internal components.
Rotor:The core rotating part,featuring a shaft with multiple(usually 6–12)vanes/blades forming pockets.The rotor is precision-engineered for minimal clearance with the housing.
Sealing System:Includes end-plate seals(packing or mechanical seals)and vane tips to prevent air leakage and material escape,ensuring efficient airlock performance.
Drive Assembly:Consists of an electric motor and a gear reducer,providing controlled rotational speed to regulate material flow rate.
Working Principle
Material from an overhead hopper or silo fills the rotor pockets via gravity.
The motor-driven rotor rotates continuously,carrying the material from the inlet to the discharge port.
As each pocket reaches the bottom,the material is discharged by gravity.
The close-tolerance vanes maintain a barrier between the inlet(often pressurized or under vacuum)and the outlet,effectively locking air pressure while allowing steady material flow.
Flow rate is precisely controlled by adjusting the rotor's RPM.
