Flanged Rotary Airlock Valve
The Flanged Rotary Airlock Valve, also known as a flanged star valve or rotary feeder,is a critical mechanical component widely used in bulk material handling and pneumatic conveying systems. It serves the dual core functions of providing a reliable airtight seal between different pressure zones and facilitating the continuous, controlled transfer of dry,free-flowing bulk materials such as powders, granules, pellets, and fine particles, without compromising system pressure integrity.
Constructed with precision-engineered components, the valve features a robust housing—typically made of cast iron, carbon steel,or stainless steel(304,316,or 316L)to suit diverse industrial environments—and a rotating rotor with 6 to 12 vanes, depending on application requirements. The key distinguishing feature is its integral inlet and outlet flanges, designed to mate seamlessly with standard ANSI,DIN,or GB pipe flanges, ensuring easy installation, secure connection, and minimal air leakage at the joint points.
Its operating principle is straightforward yet efficient:as the motor-driven rotor rotates, material falls into the pockets between the vanes through the inlet flange. The rotating vanes then carry the material to the outlet flange, where it is discharged by gravity or pneumatic pressure, while the close tolerance between the rotor and housing maintains an airtight seal to prevent backflow of air or gas between high-pressure and low-pressure zones.Outboard bearing designs are commonly adopted to protect bearings from contaminant damage, extending maintenance cycles and enhancing operational reliability.
This valve excels in handling pressure differentials up to 15 psi(or higher for heavy-duty models)and can operate in high-temperature environments up to 750°F,making it versatile across multiple industries.Typical applications include water treatment, chemical processing, mining, grain handling, food processing, cement production, and pulp and paper industries, where it efficiently transfers materials like cement, fly ash, lime, plastic pellets, grains, and activated carbon.
Key advantages include high fill efficiency, minimal air leakage due to precision machining, rugged construction for long-term durability, and easy maintenance with replaceable rotor tips and accessible seal assemblies.Optional configurations, such as adjustable vane tips, hard chrome or Teflon coatings, and air purge seals, further customize the valve to meet specific application needs, ensuring optimal performance in even the most demanding industrial settings.
